Chainsaw

Trade Skills Training offers this course as a one or two day on-site course for companies needing to train their operators basic maintenance and the correct and safe use of a Chainsaw.

This course is designed to provide participants with the theoretical knowledge and practical skills necessary to safely operate and maintain a chainsaw to a basic level. It is recommended to anyone requiring initial training in the safe use and maintenance of a chainsaw. Higher level operation can also be covered if required, however additional time may be needed depending on the number of participants selected to attend the course.

Content of the course covers the following elements relating to basic operation of a Chainsaw:

  • Attitude to and of use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
  • Occupational Hazards
  • Basic safety and familiarisation
  • Maintenance and Sharpening procedures
  • Operating a Chainsaw including:
    • cross cutting sequence
    • assessing internal stress
    • removing fallen trees
    • windblow
    • limbing
    • butt trimming
    • crowning

Those wishing to participate in this training course will have sufficient physical strength to handle the equipments in a workplace. It is unlikely that persons less than 18 years of will have the level needed. Operators need also be free of any physical or medical condition that may affect the safe use of the chainsaw.

Personal Protective Equipment required includes close fitting Overalls or work clothes with long sleeves & trousers, safety boots, helmet, ear muffs, visor (preferred) or safety glasses/goggles, gloves

Duration is one day however can be extended to two or more days and include higher level training. Participants will be assessed in both the theoretical knowledge and practical application of the skills covered.

Persons successfully completing the Course will be awarded a Certificate of Attainment in the National Competence Unit "RTC2304A - Operate and maintain chainsaws" from the Horticulture Industry Training Package RTF03.

The course is only available as on site training.
