CV Crane, CN Crane & Dogging Package

Trade Skills Training provides this three day course as a regular public course or by arrangement, on-site. The aim of this course is to provide participants, from the mining, manufacturing or construction industries, with the knowledge, skills and understanding to effectively and safely operate industrial load moving equipment (Vehicle Loading Crane and Non-Slewing Crane) and to carry out Dogging operations. The course also covers procedures relating to direction of a crane operator in the movement of the load, decisions in relation to what size sling or shackle to use and how to attach it to the load.

Content of the course covers the following elements:

Vehicle Loading and Non Slewing Crane operations:

  • Calculate safe working loads of fibre, wire and chain slings in straight, reeved and multi-leg configurations
  • Inspect equipment & identify faulty items
  • Correctly care for & store lifting equipment
  • Inspect crane component parts including sheaves, ropes, drums, hooks and anchorage
  • Assess load mass
  • Conduct pre-operational checks
  • Produce a simple job plan
  • Set up, operation and shut down of crane
  • Demonstrate all signals (hand and whistle)
  • Use of crane charts
  • Requirements for multi crane lifting
  • Requirements for lifting personnel

Dogging operations:

Those wishing to participate in this training course will need to be at least 18 years of age, be free of any physical or medical condition that may affect ability to undertake safe operation of a Crane or to undertake Dogging operations.

To be successful participants must be able to use the English language to a level that would ensure safe operation in an Australian workplace.

Although this course is generally conducted over a period of six days, persons with experience with the equipment may complete the course objectives in a slightly shorter time. The course duration is considerably less than would be the case if each component is completed independently due to the large degree of overlap in basic requirements.

Persons successfully completing the Course will be awarded a Certificate of Attainment in the National Competence Units "MNMG232A - Operate Vehicle Loading Crane","MNMG234A - Conduct Non-Slewing Crane Operations" and "MNMG207A - Conduct Dogging Operations", all of which form part of the Mining Industry Training Package, MNM05. They will also qualify to apply for the Worksafe WA National License Classes CV,CN to operate a Vehicle Loading Crane and a Non-Slewing Crane and DG to carry out Dogging in a workplace.

This course is available at both PTC in Bentley and our Trade Skills Training Centre in Midland.
